20 seconds to Wigstock

by Vincent Gagliostro
2009/ USA / PROD: G. FILMS/ 2:23 / CAST: Scott & Tim
In the mid – 90’s my two friends Scott and Tim and I decided that I should document their first venture into drag for the coming WIGSTOCK. Feeling rather nostalgic at the moment, for those times, I un-earthed the footage and made this little documentary.

Vincent Gagliostro has in the last two decades created a defining style of communication seen around the globe that has proved powerfully effective. With his “in your face”, (New York Magazine) graphics he made as a founding member of ACT UP and as a member of the political art collective GRAN FURY to his ephemerally disciplined paintings, a preoccupation with and a preference for good design that underlines all of Gagliostro’s work, he has landed in the collections of MOMA, NY, Metropolitan Museum, NY, Whitney Museum, NY, to name a few. He currently devotes most of his time to filmmaking, and is preparing a major installation of a new work in both Paris and New York, as well as completing the script for his directorial debut of a feature film, titled, AFTER LOUIE.

Quentin Crisp

by Simon Bocanegra
FRANCE / 15 min

Mr Lacroix's Pearls

by Matthew Hawkins 2009 / FRANCE / 10:05
In reminiscence about Mr Pearl, the mind of Christian Lacroix conjures opulence, comedy and visions. Matthew Hawkins is primarily a dance artist. He trained in classical ballet and danced with The Royal Ballet (UK) before becoming independent. He has been presenting his own choreography internationally since 1980 and he continues to perform. Matthew has appeared in films by Derek Jarman, Sally Potter and Charles Atlas and he is a published dance writer.

Irene Williams :
Queen of Lincoln Road

by Eric Smith
23 min / 2005 / US / PROD: WORLD LOVE PRODUCTIONS
EDITOR: LAURIE SCHMIDT/ ERIC SMITH / MUSIC: BILL UNGERMAN, RAMA KOLESNIKOW, LANG/DUNLAP/NICKOLEY CAST: IRENE WILLIAMS/ ERIC SMITH / DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY: ERIC SMITH / FASHION DESIGNER: IRENE WILLIAMS / ARTISTIC DIRECTOR: ERIC SMITH
Like hundreds of other gay men, Eric fled the New York City winters for quick weekend getaways in SOUTH BEACH MIAMI. On one of these trips in 1995 he met IRENE WILLIAMS on LINCOLN ROAD. Her wild and colorful handmade outfits immediately caught his attention. With video camera in hand he began to realize what an amazing individual was inside these clothes. Over the next decade Eric documents a marvelous journey of Irene’s outsider couture, imparted wisdom, and the heartfelt affection they share. Shades of Harold and Maude meets Grey Gardens come together in this sweet, funny, and thoroughly endearing portrait of a rare bird in paradise and a friendship found.

Eric Smith is a nice jewish boy from Long Island New York...”Eric from Merrick.” He graduated from New York Law School in 1982 and passed the NY Bar exam (on the first try). He decided not to practice law and instead started E.G. SMITH SOCKS in 1982. Creator of the world famous “SLOUCH SOCK”. Eric’s designs revolutionized the hosiery industry. His designs can be found in the United States and Japan. In Japan, his design of the “LOOSE SOCK” has been the rage of the Japanese schoolgirls for over a decade. Eric has been video taping events in his life for over 30 years. This is his first film, and which has garnered 12 AWARDS, and hopefully the beginning of a series of future films created from his archives. Eric worked and lived in New York City until 1998. He now lives in San Francisco with his “significant smother” Mark and their dog Mattachine.
